Samsung Electronics has announced a global partnership with bicycle manufacturer Trek Bicycle. The South Korean giant is seeking to enhance the fitness and healthcare features of its mobile devices by better understanding the needs of cyclists of all types.
As part of the partnership, Samsung will collaborate with the Trek Factory Racing Team, a professional cycling team that competes on the UCI World Tour. It will provide the cyclists, coaches and staff with Samsung mobile and tablet devices in an attempt to advance their training and cycling experiences.
Samsung says its Gear devices will enable the team to better monitor their health, while its tablets will allow them to more effectively strategise, communicate and plan in-race routes.
The electronics company says it will use feedback from the cycling team to guide future product development. Samsung is hoping to become a big player in the wearable technology sector, and recently unveiled a prototype wristbandthat analyses health and fitness data.
