Light work at Trent Bridge

Supplier: Abacus Lighting Ltd

More Abacus Lighting Ltd details
Abacus Lighting has completed work on the installation of new floodlighting at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge Cricket Ground as part of its £8.2m redevelopment project.

The project, scheduled to be completed for the Third npower Test Match, England v New Zealand, will expand the capacity of Trent Bridge and improve facilities for both players and spectators.

As well as building a new stand on the Bridgford Road side of the ground and adding seats elsewhere to raise capacity to more than 17,000, the Club has installed six permanent floodlights and is building a new office block for match day officials and administration staff. The redevelopment has helped to win Trent Bridge the honour of hosting The Twenty20 World Cup in 2009.

Abacus has manufactured and installed six 40m high fixed masts carrying a total of 360 Challenger® 3 floodlights, all designed to International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International Standards.

The masts feature iconic circular floodlight head frames, designed by Maber Architects of Nottingham, providing the stadium with a unique 'signature' in world cricket. The masts have been manufactured to carry up to 64 floodlights for the present, with an additional 10 per cent capacity in case of future ICC changes or the requirement for lighting levels suitable for TV match coverage.

The floodlights will be in use for the first time for the second NatWest Series International against South Africa on August 26th 2008.

The floodlighting levels will be 2,200 Lux at the central wicket, reducing down to 1,000 Lux on the outfield. Abacus has also secured the contract to maintain the lighting installation for the next 10 years.
