Playground designer and manufacturer, SMP Playgrounds, has signed a three-year contract with Cardiff City Council to support the city's playground regeneration programme.
The agreement, worth £350,000 in the first year, will see SMP - chosen following a Council tender process - take the role of sole partner and supplier.
Work started at the largest site, Victoria Park, Cardiff's Green Flag Award winning centrepiece, on 25th February.
Eleven playgrounds have been selected for regeneration in the first year of the contract, with planning for 2009 and 2010 in progress.
Sites will be identified in accordance with Cardiff City Council's Parks and Green Spaces Strategy, which aims to provide recreational space for all ages - mature citizens and the city's youth alike.
Work on the first 11 parks is scheduled for completion on 31st March this year. They include Helen Street, Adamsdown; Victoria Park, Canton; Millrace Lane, Lisvane; Bryn Glas and St Martins, both in Llanishen; Lydstep Crescent, Llandaff North; Chapel Wood, Llanederyn; Garth Newydd, Pentyrch; Horwood Close, Splott; Coleford Drive, St Mellons; and Maitland Gardens in Heath.
